Ocean Grove has signed former VFL player Anton Woods from Bellarine rivals Anglesea.
The Grubbers have confirmed the addition of Woods, who K rock Football understands is living close to the club’s Ray Menzies Oval base.
Woods, 33, won the Morrish Medal as TAC Cup best-and-fairest in 2009 with the Northern Knights before playing 29 VFL games with the Northern Bullants and Williamstown.
At Anglesea, he played 16 games and kicked seven goals, helping the club to its first grand final appearance in 24 years.
Woods played 135 games at Northern League club Eltham, including its 2023 premiership win.
His resume at Etlham features a best-and-fairest in 2017, four selections in the Northern League Division 1 Team of the Year and Northern League Team of the Decade (2010-19), and representing the Northern League and Vic Metro.
Woods is the tenth signing announced by the Grubbers, following the return of former captain Joe McDonald and signings of Gus Bourke (Terang Mortlake), Rhys Devlin (Newtown & Chilwell), Jai Hale (Mordialloc), Jhdara Jones (Tatura), Adam Walsh (Winchelsea), Mitch Ward (Darley), and Taj Wyburd (Peel Thunder)
Meanwhile, GFNL runner-up South Barwon has added another Weideman, with Connor joining brother Lachie at McDonald Reserve.
The younger Weideman, who turns 19 next month, made 25 appearances across 2023-24 with Talent League club GWV Rebels while playing three matches with home club Rupanyup.
The 192cm Weideman has spent pre-season training with VFL team Williamstown, where he will be a development player this year.
However, he is racing the clock to be fit for Round 1 after undergoing minor knee surgery on an injury suffered in a practice match with the Seagulls.
