It will be of little solace to coach Ben Carmichael, but Drysdale’s one-goal effort against all-conquering reigning premier Torquay wasn’t its lowest score in the Bellarine.
The Hawks finished the contest on 1.9 (15), 85 points behind the undefeated Tigers, with their lone goal coming from James Bresut early in the second quarter.
You have to turn the clock back to 1981 for Drysdale’s lowest score when kept to 1.1 (7) in Round 11 against Anglesea on its way to the club’s only winless BFNL season.
That was the lowest score in the competition until St Leonards was kept to three behinds for a match, ironically against the Hawks, in 1986.
However, it was their lowest score in 121 meetings with Torquay, “bettering” the previous low of 2.6 (18) in Round 8, 1999.
