FATHER-son coaching duo Darren and Joel Bennett will continue to build on the foundations they have laid for future success at Corio after re-signing for 2024.
The Devils, who sit ninth at the halfway mark of the GDFNL season with a 4-5 win-loss record, announced on Monday night the pair would continue next year.
It’s their best opening to a year since 2011, when they were 4-5 at the turn before going on to six wins for the season.
They also pushed Inverleigh to 19 points in Round 1, Winchelsea to 13 points in Round, and led Bannockburn at halftime before suffering a 33-point loss.
Darren first took charge of the Devils ahead of the 2019 season, with Joel coming on board for 2021.
After going winless through 2018 and 2019, Corio snapped a 47-game losing streak with a victory over Anakie in Round 7, 2021.
It was the Devils’ only win in a Covid-shortened season, and there was only one win (also over Anakie) in 2022.
However, some solid recruiting, and the improvement of several players, has Corio in its best shape since it was a finals regular at the turn of the century.
