Increased work demands have forced Christian Shaw to step down as Winchelsea coach on the eve of the GDFNL season.
In a statement provided to K rock Football, the former Bannockburn, North Shore, and St Joseph’s star confirmed his departure ahead of next week’s Round 1 clash with Thomson at Godfrey Street.
“A pending increase in Melbourne and interstate work commitments and travelling in excess of 1000km a week does take a toll and sacrifices a lot of time with family,” Shaw said.
In Shaw’s two seasons in charge, Winchelsea posted an 18-18 win-loss record, finishing seventh with 8 wins in 2022 before improving to sixth with ten victories last year.
President Daniel Greskie says the Blues are now in the process of finding a replacement for Shaw.
“We’re disappointed with the timing of Butch’s decision but understand the demands of his job,” Greskie said.
“We have been aware of these demands and are well down the track in searching for a replacement.”
