Werribee Centrals playing coach Rhyce Prismall has been reported in the moments following a tense conclusion to its narrow five-point loss to Bell Post Hill at Galvin Park.
Many at Galvin Park thought the Centurions were on the right side of a thriller after suffering consecutive three-point losses before Easter to open the 2025 season, when Cam Saliba skidded through a running goal from 45m out.
However, the field umpire ruled he had heard the siren before Saliba got his kick away, resulting in a 13.10 (88) to 12.11 (83) victory to the visitors.
Prismall confirmed to K Rock Football he had been offered a two-week suspension, which he is happy to challenge at the tribunal if AFL Barwon’s Match Review Panel upholds the umpire’s charge.
“I think it’s a bit of a misunderstanding that I can explain on the night,” he said.
“Nothing malicious or disrespectful to the umpire. I think they just misheard what I said or the way I directed it.
“So, yeah, we’ll more than likely appeal that one because it was a misunderstanding and nothing malicious in it.”
Prismall says it was disappointing to suffer another defeat by less than a goal, which leaves Centrals as the only winless team in the GDFNL after three weeks.
“You sort of throw your hands up in the air and go, ‘What are we doing wrong?’,” he said.
“But, we’re putting in a lot of work. We review games. We watch footage. We train really hard on our method. And that’s been always since November.
“If we kick one extra kick straight every game, we’re 3-0 and we’re probably talking about how good we’re going.
“But it’s not to be.”
