The 23-year-old played his early football in the Hamilton area before joining Hampden League club Port Fairy, where he debuted as a 16-year-old.
Mawson made four appearances at Talent League level with the GWV Rebels in 2018 before heading to Port Douglas the following year.
During his stint with the Crocs, he represented North Queensland and the Cairns All-Stars before heading to the SANFL ahead of the 2023 season.
Mawson’s arrival at Anakie Reserve follows the returns of Brad Gerrard, Brayden Cotter, Mitch Gavin and Kyle Eibl and the additions of Jake Long, Kain Fuller and Jai Jeffrey.
The Roos open their 2025 campaign with a trip to Corio.
