One of Geelong’s oldest sporting clubs has celebrated its history by inducting its first female members to its hall of fame.

North Geelong Football and Netball Club held its second Hall of Fame function on Sunday at Keith Barclay Oval, as it honoured ten influential figures from across its 147-year history.

Kelly Parker’s unmatched contribution to the Magpies’ netball section since the GDFNL introduced a netball section in 2022 saw her not only inducted into the Hall of Fame but also elevated to Legend status.

Also honoured from the netball section were Lauren Drever (nee’ Birch), Donna Fisher, Sarah Fitzsimmons (nee’ Welsh) and Silvia Luczo.

Parker wasn’t the only North great afforded Legend status.

Football section icons Garry Birch and Paul Cotter, who were Hall of Fame inductees at the first event in 2014, were both elevated, joining Parker and inaugural Legends Keith Barclay, Kevin Harrington, Brian Mowat, George Pownall and Clive Waugh in being afforded North’s highest honour.

This year’s football inductees were Derek Fitzsimmons, Jason Habib and the late Ron Willis.
