Thomson coach Paul Lynch has labelled recruit Dylan Jose “a straight-up replacement” for departed midfielder Logan Mitchell.

The former Lara captain has been unveiled as the reigning premier’s latest signing, joining the Tigers after 117 games and 104 goals with the GFNL Cats.

“He’s got a pretty good CV; I’ve heard nothing but good things about him as a footballer,” Lynch said.

“All my GFL connections have said, “You’ve got a good one there”, so I look forward to seeing what he can do.

“Speaking to a few Colac boys, they’re a high wrap for him.”

Lynch says a connection with Thomson star Billie Smedts helped lure Jose, who also spent a year with Western League club Werribee Districts in 2017, to Godfrey Street.

“Billie got wind he might have been looking to wind down from GFL footy,” Lynch said.

“We got him in, had a quick chat, and he liked what he saw.

“I think he’s looking to have a couple more years of footy and go from there.”

Jose joins the returning big man Andrew Jarvis, premiership player Paul Davis, and former Grovedale, Bell Park, and Bannockburn player Patty Knott as off-season additions at Thomson.

However, with several players shedding a point from this year, Lynch says there is room for more recruits.

“We’ve probably got eight points available,” he said.

“We’ve lost a couple, and everyone rolls back a point, so points-wise, we’re probably not too bad.

“We’re on the hunt for a couple more.”

Lynch has also welcomed news that has filtered through to clubs that the GDFNL will operate with a salary cap of $85,000.

As reported earlier this month by K rock Football, league president Neville Whitley was keen to see the GDFNL on par with the Bellarine, whose salary cap will tier from $85,000 up to $90,000.

“Giving us another $10,000 allows us to get better players into the competition and allows for a better spectacle across the board,” Lynch said.

“We want the best players playing in our competition… and an extra $10,000 helps that.”
