Reigning GDFNL premier Thomson has landed a pre-Christmas recruiting blow by signing experienced midfielder Ben Kamaric from GFNL club St Joseph’s.
Coach Paul Lynch says the arrival of the 27-year-old will help fill the void left by the departures of Charley Donohue (Nirranda) and Logan Mitchell (Tantanoola).
Kamaric was limited to just two senior games this year after 14 games in his debut season at Drew Oval.
He also brings 121 games of Tasmanian State League experience to Godfrey Street.
“Zach Plant and Jacob Knight have played against him in the Tassie League,” Lynch said.
“That’s where it all started, and we sort of moved from there when we heard that he might be looking to move to another club.
He’s obviously had some injuries, especially this year, but at his best, he’s a good footballer.
“He probably fills a bit of a gap that you’ll lose through Donohue and Mitchell going.”
The signing of Kamaric follows the arrivals of Lara duo Dylan Jose and Kane Higgins, journeyman Patty Knott, and the return of Andrew Jarvis and Paul Davis.
In addition to losing Donohue (Nirranda) and Mitchell (Tantanoola), Lynch confirmed the previously reported ruptured anterior cruciate ligament suffered by star forward Jacob Knight.
Lynch revealed Knight’s recovery won’t be as straightforward as undergoing a knee reconstruction.
“He’s going to have clean-up surgery to start with,” Lynch said.
“I think he’s got to get his meniscus tidied up and one other’; maybe his posterior (ligament) or something like that.
“But he’s got to have that first, and then he’ll have the ACL down the track.
“I believe ‘Knighta’, probably in the last seven games, was close to the best player in the competition.”
Meanwhile, Winchelsea has welcomed Cam Primmer from North Shore and Tyler Beasley from Kolora-Noorat.
Primmer has played 28 GFNL senior matches to – 26 at the Seagulls over the past two seasons and two at South Barwon in 2022.
Beasley was a teammate of new Blues coach Ben Moloney at Kolora-Noorat.
