Anakie is mourning the death of club identity James Mapapalangi.

Tributes are flowing in following the death of Anakie identity James Mapapalangi.

The Roos confirmed Mapapalangi’s passing after a battle with cancer that commenced early in 2022 in a social media post on Saturday.

“Like most families involved in local clubs, everyone played their part,” the post said.

“James, aka Butch, was always the first and last to be at the club, ensuring its survival by playing, coaching junior sides, line marking even in the rain, committee member and around helper so much that the club bestowed a life membership award to him.”

“His fight was honourable, and in (the) true spirit of the great man he was.”

North Geelong president Darren Vandenberg paid tribute on behalf of the Magpies.

“It’s hard to have and find great club people, and Butch was that and more,” he wrote.

James Mapapalangi is survived by his wife Shelley and daughters Ebony and Jess.
