Next Gen Academy prospects, AFL father-sons and father-daughters, and the son of a former Australian netball star are among final selections in the Geelong Falcons boys and girls squads for the 2025 season.
NGA duo Ben Rongdit and Jesse Mellor are on Geelong’s radar having spent time with the Cats during the pre-season.
Father-sons include Jax Cooney (Adam – Western Bulldogs), Boston Riccardi (Peter – Geelong), Archie Daffy (Nick – Richmond) and Jagger Mooney (Cam – Geelong).
Cooney and Daffy become draft eligible next year.
Noah Caracella (Blake – Essendon), who played a half in Geelong’s VFL practice match against the Bombers last week, is one of five 19-year-olds the Falcons will carry into the season.
Former Cat James Rahilly’s son Van is also in the squad but doesn’t qualify as a father-son.
Twins Meg and Ally Lappin are father-daughter eligible for the Brisbane Lions, where Dad Nigel played 279 matches in an Australian Football Hall of Fame career.
After two appearances in 2024, Sam Meaney – the son of former Diamond Susan – returns to the boys squad.
The Paul Corrigan-coached boys open their season against the Dandenong Stingrays at Trevor Barker Beach Oval on Sunday, March 30.
The girls, who Tash Heffernan will coach while Mel Hickey is on maternity leave, begin their campaign the following Saturday against the GWV Rebels at Mars Stadium.
