Exciting Geelong Falcons forward Will McLachlan has been rewarded for his impressive start to the Talent League season after being drafted by the Brisbane Lions in the AFL’s Mid-season Rookie Draft.
Overlooked in last year’s National Draft, the Colac product – who was pick No.6 in tonight’s (Wednesday’s) draft – has been the standout forward in the Talent League with a competition-best 26 goals.
His most recent outing was a six-goal effort in the Falcons’ win over the GWV Rebels in Ballarat on the weekend.
In addition to playing with the Falcons, he made two appearances for a Young Guns team against Vic Metro and Vic Country.
“Will is a dynamic player whose speed and finishing skills will be a welcome addition to us,” Lions recruiting boss Stephen Conole said.
“After missing out on last year’s draft Will’s work ethic and aptitude to work on his game has been enormous.”
Locals overlooked included Geelong Falcons trio Joe Pike, Liam Kershaw and Tobyn Murray, and Anakie and Geelong VFL big man Ajang Kuol mun.
St Mary’s product Matt Ling, who has played four games with Sydney and is playing is trade with SANFL club Norwood, was also overlooked.
