Alex Tortora will step down as coach of St Albans at the end of the season with one year left on his contract.
The Supersaints have confirmed Tortora will depart the club after three years in charge of the struggling GFNL club.
”During Alex’s three-year tenure at St Albans, he has shown genuine care, interest and passion for our player development on and off the field,” a statement on the club’s Facebook page said.
“We would like to acknowledge Alex’s dedication, and the stability he has brought to our Club in recent times.
“We will now use this to build on the growth and success that the St Albans Football & Netball Club is ready for.”
The former Coburg VFL player was appointed ahead of the 2022 season as the replacement for Ben Patrick.
Despite overseeing a winless first season, St Albans signed Tortora until the end of 2025 in the search for stability.
While the Supersaints snapped a 49-game losing streak with consecutive wins in rounds 15 and 16 last year, they have suffered 14 straight losses.
Their average losing margin through 12 rounds of the 2024 season is 116 points, including being held goalless by Newtown & Chilwell in Round 3.
Seven-point losses to both Grovedale and Lara are as close as St Albans has come to victory.
The Supersaints are the third club to officially commence the search for a new coach, joining Colac and Lara
