Local football’s worst-kept secret has been confirmed, with AFL Barwon confirming the GFNL Grand Final will find a new date the day before the AFL decider.
Speculation has been swirling for several weeks, with clubs preparing for the announcement of the region’s showpiece contest being held on the recently introduced Friday public holiday.
K rock Football is led to believe AFL Barwon is open to playing the grand final as a twilight fixture, bringing GMHBA Stadium into play as a potential venue.

The last GFNL Grand Final was played at the ground in 2019 following the expiration of a three-year deal between AFL Barwon and the Kardinia Park Stadium Trust.
Post-Covid matchups have been held at St Albans Reserve (2022) and Leopold Memorial Park (2023).
The GFNL season will start on Saturday, April 13, with the fixture to feature byes on May 25 and July 6 and a split round across August 3 and 10.
The finals series will start on Saturday, September 7.
The entire fixture is expected to be released before Christmas.
