COLAC has confirmed the reappointment of Rowan McSparron as coach of the GFL club.
McSparron joined the Tigers as co-coach from Geelong Amateur at the end of 2018 to share the role with Kane Leersen and was set to go it alone this year.
President Matt Gibson said McSparron’s had a massive impact since arriving at Central Reserve.
“He’s been a fantastic addition to the footy club,” Gibson said.
“He understands the history of the club with his father-in-law Guy (Permezel) being a former coach and premiership player, so he’s fitted in really well.
“It’s been a different year, 2020, but we’re looking forward to Rowan taking the reins in 2021.
“The senior playing list is all jumping back on board again, which is good to see, so we’re planning for 2021 now.”
As well as redemption for its heartbreaking grand final loss to St Mary’s, Colac is also looking forward to playing under its new lights next year.
“The lights are officially going; the boys trained under them on Friday night,” Gibson said.
“The official unveiling will be next year – Round 1 or 2 – when we can host a twilight game and get full use of them.
“The facility is ticking along well from an infrastructure point-of-view.
“The netball courts, even though they’ve had a couple of hiccups, are on their way.
“It’s going to be a fantastic facility for Colac.”
No Tigers teams will be in action in 2020, with the club choosing not to participate in the underage competitions.
“We did our due diligence and checked with all the families and players,” Gibson said.
“The under-19s were probably stiff; they were probably the one team we could have got across the line.
“But, in the end, it was a “one-in, all-in” policy, and we’re pretty comfortable with the decision to use 2020 just to take a breath and reset and put a lot of energy and planning into 2021.”
