In an off-season that has seen several key departures, some positive news for GFNL powerhouse St Mary’s.
The Saints have today (Saturday) confirmed the signing of VFL stalwart Ryan Pendelbury.
Pendelbury, the brother of Collingwood great Scott, arrives at Anthony Costa Oval from Goulburn Valley club Euroa, where he was coach this year.
There are reports he will have an expanded role at North Melbourne, where he’s working with the club’s AFLW program.
From Sale, Pendlebury played at Talent League level with Gippsland Power before making 83 VFL appearances with Casey, Bendigo, Collingwood and Werribee.
The 32-year-old was named in the VFL Team of the Year in 2015.
Pendlebury, who is believed to have been on Geelong West’s radar, is one of two signings announced by St Mary’s.
The Saints have also added Ben Berry from Hampden League club Cobden.
Berry, a forward/ruck, is no stranger to the region, having spent 2022 with Bellarine club Newcomb.
He represented the Hampden League in an under-23 interleague game this year.
The additions of Pendlebury and Berry come following the departure of a number of key players.
Damian McMahon (St Mary’s), Sam Dobson (Koroit), Joe Maishman (Geelong Amateur), Nick Minchin (Murrumbeena), Dion Johnstone (Newcomb), Harry Ling (Anglesea) and Kade Chalcraft (St Mary’s) will call for elsewhere home in 2025.
