GEELONG’S men’s players are looking forward to seeing what impact AFLW pioneer Daisy Pearce will have on the club when she takes up a full-time coaching role.
The 34-year-old announced her retirement from footy during the week, after leading the Demons an elusive premiership in November.
Pearce’s role at Geelong is still ‘undefined’ at this stage, but Cats veteran and Norm Smith Medallist Isaac Smith knows she’ll have an instant impact on the club.
“I think the impact she’s had on AFLW has been huge, the impact she’s now having in the men’s game especially with her commentary and media stuff and a lot of that with Channel 7, I think the club’s extremely excited to get her on board,” Smith said.
“We’ve seen the football department transition especially in the last three or four years with the growth of the AFL Women’s game.
“As a club we’re very excited to get Daisy down here and I’m looking forward to working with her and spending a bit of time with her.
“I think she’s going to be a huge asset to the club.”

Pearce will bring a wealth of experience to Geelong while her coaching role is also a first for women in AFL, Smith said she’s capable of bringing a lot to the table.
“I think everyone we get in these doors brings a different insight and a different mix into the group.
“Daisy having the profile she’s already got will mean she’ll probably have influence as soon as she walks through the door.
“I’m looking forward to working with her and seeing what she brings.”
