All eyes on the Geelong Racing Club today for the 2024 Geelong Cup.
A strong field of local and international horses are expected for the race, including former Melbourne Cup winner Vow and Declare, with Kiwi runner Usual Legacy favourite.
Geelong Racing Club CEO Luke Rayner says the track is in excellent condition despite last week’s rains.
“I think the track we will present today will be the best track we’ve ever had,” he said.
“It’s had four weeks off since we last had a meeting here, we’ve obviously had the rains at the end of last week, but we’re really happy.
“It’s a credit to (track manager) Jimmy Dalton and the crew, I’ve walked it in the past few days and it is just beautiful.”
The 2400m circuit rated as a good four for today’s event.
Rayner says the Cup is one of his favourite days on the calendar.
“I love the crowd we get in for a race day l;ike this,” he said.
