Adelaide’s ended Geelong’s winning streak at four – winning in a two point thriller in the AFLW at at Unley Oval on Friday evening.
The 4.6 (30) to 4.4 (28) win puts the reigning champs back in the top four while the Cats are now a game outside the double chance.
Geelong coach Dan Lowther took plenty of positives out of the loss, praising his teams desire and effort.
“I think we’re good enough to play against any team in the competition,” Lowther said.
“We’ve got a young team that’s only going to get better and that’s a good thing for us to keep our core group together and just keep adding layers to our team.”
Georgie Prespakis and Amy McDonald had 23 disposals each while Chantal Emerson (19 disposals) provided plenty of drive out of defence.
Lowther said despite the effort, the Crows’ ability to get on top in the midfield contest was telling.
“That was always going to be a hot contest,” he said.
“But that’s what we pride ourselves on as well, I think we can match it with teams in that space and I think our girls did a terrific job after quarter time in particular.”
The Cats will be strongly favoured to take winning momentum into the finals when they host Sydney at GMHBA Stadium next Saturday, 5.10pm (AEDT) in the final game of the home and away season.
