GEELONG Falcons Girls coach Jason Armistead has hailed his players’ unrelenting nature after a 26-point win over Sandringham Dragons at Frankston to open the NAB League season.
The reigning premier kept the Dragons to just one scoring shot for the contest – a goal in the second quarter.
“They just don’t stop, they just continued on,” Armistead said.
“Early on we were under the pump, but we kept them under enough pressure.
“Eventually when it turned our way, they were still going at 100 per cent the whole time.
“You can’t fault that; it generally wins games if you’re able to do that for four quarters”.
Premiership quartet Luka Lesosky-Hay, Abbey Chapman, Paige Sheppard and captain Lucy McEvoy led the way, while Mia Skinner and debutant Darcy Moloney also impressed.
“It was quite an even performance,” Armistead said.
“Abbey Chapman was awesome early when the backline was under the pump. Lucy McEvoy, Paige Sheppard, Luka and two rucks, Skyelee (Hovey) and Analee (McKee) were good, and Darcy Moloney had a really good first game as well.
“Mia Skinner was awesome all game. It was really tough to pick the best players.”
The NAB League will break for the Labor Day weekend, with the Falcons to host Gippsland Power at Deakin University’s Elite Sports Precinct on March 17.
