CARLTON defender Nic Newman will miss the remainder of the 2020 AFL season after rupturing his patella tendon in Saturday’s one-point loss to Melbourne.
Scans have confirmed the damage, with the former Sydney player to undergo surgery on his right knee.
“We’re really disappointed for Newy, especially after he worked so hard to get back from elbow surgery after Round 1,” Blues football boss Brad Lloyd said.
“His work rate and professionalism is second-to-none.
“While this is a significant injury, we have full confidence that Newy’s approach to his rehab will be first-class and we look forward to seeing him back to his best in 2021.”
Drafted from VFL club Frankston in the 2015 National Draft, Newman played 31 games in four seasons at the Swans before being traded to Carlton at the end of 2018.
He played all bar two matches for the Blues in 2019.
