JACK Crisp hopes star Collingwood teammate Taylor Adams follows suit in signing a long-term deal.
The Magpies have rewarded Crisp and Will Hoskin-Elliott with deals that secure their football futures after they played integral roles in last season’s success.
Crisp will be with Collingwood until the end of 2023 and Hoskin-Elliott has committed until 2022.
Adams also starred last season and finished second in the Norm Smith Medal voting after the Magpies lost a classic grand final by only five points.
There is speculation the on-baller is on the verge of a five-year deal.
“We’re really comfortable with where the club is at … and we’re going to build again off last year’s great season,” Crisp said.
“Hopefully Taylor Adams signs a long-term deal as well.
“We have a lot of core players who are going to be sticking around for a while, which is really good to see.”
Crisp and Hoskin-Elliott are both 25, reached 100 AFL games last season and played every game in 2018.
They also came to Collingwood from rival clubs, with Crisp joining in the deal that sent Dayne Beams to Brisbane while Hoskin-Elliott arrived from GWS.
Now Beams is back at Collingwood.
“It is pretty funny, we’ve had a few laughs about it,” Crisp said of Beams returning to the Magpies.
“I was looking for more opportunity down here and I was lucky enough to get that.
“But now he’s made his way back to the ‘Pies and it’s going to be interesting to see how he fits in.”
Hoskin-Elliott said last year’s finals success came quicker than they expected.
“Coming from another club where you knew there was probably going to be success up there, it was a tough decision,” the forward said of leaving the Giants.
“But I’m glad I came home.
“We thought we had the right formula to play finals, but we didn’t think it would come this quick.
“To be there and get the experience last season is only going to help us … for years to come.”
The competition for senior spots at Collingwood is fierce, especially through the midfield, and Crisp said versatility is crucial.
“As Bucks (coach Nathan Buckley) has said, we’re still trying to find our right mix and we might not find it until late in the pre-season,” Crisp said.
“But we obviously have so many players who can go through (the midfield), forward and back.
“We’re going to have to be able to play multiple roles to get a spot on the team.
“There’s a healthy competition for spots.”
