IF there were an award for the broadest smile among AFLW draftees arriving at their club for the first time, Brooke Plummer would be a legitimate contender.

Geelong’s second selection in Wednesday night’s draft is a lifelong Cats supporter who proudly donned the Hoops adorned with Jimmy Bartel’s famous No.3 as she started her football journey at Auskick level.

“Coming here was basically like a dream for me ever since I was a little kid,” Plummer, who was contacted by both Joel Selwood and Patrick Dangerfield after being drafted, said.

“On Auskick days, I had my little Geelong jumper on.

“Being here, (I’m) just feeling part of the community already.

“All the staff have been lovely … and showing me the facilities that I can finally now use.

“I’m really, really excited.”

Plummer, the subject of interest from the Western Bulldogs, Collingwood and Essendon, had a gathering on Wednesday night to hear her name called at pick 42.

“I was really, really nervous; my heart was pumping out of my chest,” she said,

“It was good because I had ex-teammates, friends, family, (and) current teammates there, so they helped settle my nerves a bit.

“I was freaking out, sweating; I was so nervous. I was pacing; I couldn’t sit down.

“It was a big build-up. But it’s all over now, and I’m ready to get to work”.

It’s that work that Plummer, who represented Vic Metro at this under-18 National Championships, will earn her a debut in Round 1.

“That’s something every draftee wants,” she said.

“I’m going to be working really closely alongside the coaches.

(I’ll be) just trying to push as much as possible, train as hard as I can, but also enjoy the experience and what it brings for myself.

“But, on the training track, I’m ready to go and hopefully bring what I’ve got to the team and get my name called out Round 1.
