Cat reveals pregnancy

Experienced Geelong defender Chantel Emonson will miss the 2025 AFLW season after announcing she is pregnant with her first child.

The 31-year-old, who has played 45 games with the Cats since crossing from Melbourne for a career total of 67, took to social media to reveal the good news for her and fiance Thomas Pridgeon.

“Thomas and I are excited about welcoming a new addition,” Emonson said.

“Although this season will look differently for me, I looked forward to continuing to support the girls in a different capacity. We are grateful for the support we have received already.”

Emonson, due later this year, will be placed on he inactive list, leaving Geelong with two places to fill in its 30-player squad.

Chantel has been an integral part of our AFLW program for the past four seasons and is very well liked and respected at the Club,” coach Dan Lowther said. 

“We’re all thrilled for her and Tom, and can’t wait to meet the newest addition to their family later this year.”
