Geelong will face the Brisbane Lions in Round 3 after the AFL confirmed the timing of the rescheduled Opening Round meeting between the two clubs.
The Cats and Lions were due to clash tonight (Thursday) at the Gabba before the match was postponed as southeast Queensland and northern NSW prepare for Tropical Cyclone Alfred to hit landfall later this week.
Geelong will now face Brisbane on Saturday, March 29, with the bounce at 7:35 pm (AEDT).
The AFL has also rescheduled the Gold Coast-Essendon game initially fixtured for this Saturday afternoon at People First Stadium.
It will now be played as part of Round 24.
“When looking at the rescheduling of these matches we had a focus on having the least amount of disruption on the competition, ensuring that all clubs still have a mid-season bye and managing travel arrangements across the season – particularly for the four impacted clubs,” AFL CEO Andrew Dillon said.
“I would like to thank our clubs, broadcasters, and venues for their cooperation during this unprecedented situation and our thoughts remain with our staff, players, fans and all those in southeast Queensland and northern NSW that may be impacted.”
