Geelong has finalised its list before next month’s draft period by delisting Category B Rookie Joe Furphy.

Signed by the Cats ahead of the 2024 season, the basketball product was axed after just 10 VFL games.

“We have enjoyed having Joe as part of our football program in 2024,” Geelong football boss Andrew Mackie said.

“He is a quality person, and we wish him all the best in the future.”

Furphy is the tenth departure since Geelong’s season ended with a preliminary final loss to the Brisbane Lions.

Tom Hawkins and Zach Tuohy have entered retirement, with premiership duo Brandan Parfitt and Gary Rohan, former Hawthorn defender Emerson Jeka, and uncapped quartet Phoenix Foster, James Willis, Oscar Murdoch, and Mitch Hardie told by the Cats their services were no longer required last month.

Geelong will re-sign captain Patrick Dangerfield and fellow veterans Mitch Duncan and Rhys Stanley.

The Cats welcomed former Westen Bulldog Bailey Smith during last week’s trade period, while ex-Carlton and Gold Coast forward Jack Martin will arrive officially when the delisted free agency window opens next Friday.

“Jack has been around for a while now, and he has some experience; we are excited to get him down here,” Mackie said.

“He is looking to settle in already; he has got a house and a young family.

“We feel like we are a really good spot for him and we are really excited about what that can be, clearly the on field stuff for Jack hasn’t gone the way he would have liked the last couple of years.

“The work from here is just (to) put all our team around him and, like we do with every player, try to explore ways that we can get the best out of him.

“He is a great person, going to be great for our group, and we are looking forward to what that can potentially be.”
