Rare history is against Geelong as they prepare to host the GWS Giants at GMHBA Stadium on Saturday.
The Cats have dropped their last three against the Giants at home, and it’s a trend veteran Mark Blicavs says his side is desperate to end.
No team has beaten Geelong on four consecutive occasions at Kardinia Park since the great Brisbane Lions teams from the turn of the century and the Western Bulldogs, who won five in a row between 1998 and 2003.
“It’s gonna be a big task for us,” he said. “They’ll come down here pretty confident; they play this deck really well.
The last couple of times they’ve beaten us, they’ve moved the ball really well.”
Though travelling back from Darwin, the Cats will be coming off a nine-day break, which Blicavs hopes will provide a welcome reset following a 64-point loss to Gold Coast.
“You sort of look for those breaks where you can take a breath; it’s a long season,” he said.
“What the club asked of us was to come in Monday and be ready to reset and go again, so it gives you time to focus on how you’ve gone in the first ten games.”
Both sides come into Saturday’s twilight clash in similar form – having both dropped their past three games.
“We’re disappointed,” he said. “We’re not happy with our performance; we need to improve.
“The good thing, though, with Scotty (coach Chris Scott) is that he remains consistent in his approach, he’s not naive to think we’re going great, he looks for things to improve, and his consistency helps us as a team.
Blicavs says he knows he needs to improve his game as the side looks to return to the winners’ list.
“I’ve got things to improve on,” he said.
“I’m trying to have an influence on games and work hard, and I don’t think I’m getting it all right at the moment.
“I haven’t had to with how we’ve been playing previous to the last few weeks.
“I want to continue to improve; I want to have more influence on games, which I feel like I haven’t had as much of in previous seasons.”
