STAR netballer Mel Bragg has been added to Geelong’s AFLW list as the replacement for inactive defender Maddy McMahon.
The Cats confirmed the elevation of Bragg – who played Super Netball with Collingwood in 2018 – after she impressed at VFLW level this year.
She played 14 of a possible 15 games for Geelong. She kicked eight goals, including four in the Round 3 win over the Richmond-aligned Port Melbourne.
The athletic Bragg played various roles throughout the season, including in the ruck, impressing coach Andrew Bruce.
“Mel is a highly competitive player who excelled in her first year at VFLW level,” he said.
“Her ability to play at both ends of the ground was demonstrated throughout the season.
“Mel’s natural competitiveness and willingness to learn was highlighted throughout her VFLW season, and her key attributes will be a welcomed addition to our AFLW list.”
Bragg is the second elevation to the main list made by the Cats.
With basketball convert Sam Gooden also inactive, young ruck Kalani Scoullar was upgraded last week.
Geelong opens the new season against Richmond at GMHBA Stadium on Sunday, with the first bounce at 4:10pm.
