Gryan Miers will miss Geelong’s Sunday meeting with Carlton after the club confirmed a concussion following a swinging arm from Hawthorn’s Conor Nash in the Cats’ Easter Monday win at the MCG.
The concussion protocol is a minimum of 12 days, which would make Miers available for the clash with Collingwood the following Friday.
However, the 26-year-old will have to go through a graded return to be cleared to play against the Magpies for the hit that has Nash headed straight to the tribunal.
“Gryan has entered the AFL’s concussion protocol following an incident in the third quarter of Monday’s game,” football boss Andrew Mackie said.
“We will know more around his possible return timeline as he progresses through the graded return to play protocol.”
The concussion will end Miers’ run of 76 consecutive games, which began in Round 4, 2022.
Irishman Oisin Mullin will be a test to take on the Blues after being a late withdrawal from Easter Monday with a hip issue.
“Oisin had some hip soreness while warming up for the game against Hawthorn, and we decided to take a cautious approach and withdraw him from the game,” Mackie said.
After being a late withdrawal from Sunday’s VFL loss to Box Hill, experienced defender Jake Kolodjashnij will be available for selection.
Having battled a groin issue for nearly two months, a minor back problem kept Kolodjashnij sidelined.
“Jake was available to play in the VFL last Sunday; however, (he) had low back pain on the morning of the game, and it was decided to give him an additional week off,” Mackie.
“He is set to return via the VFL this weekend against Carlton.”
Draftees Xavier Ivisic and Keighton Matofai-Forbes will pull on the Hoops for the first time at VFL level when Geelong meets Carlton at Princes Park.
“Xavier has completed his rehabilitation after a right syndesmosis injury, while Keighton has completed a conditioning block after an interrupted pre-season,” Mackie said.
