PATRICK Dangerfield says playing Tom Hawkins, Esava Ratugolea and former Adelaide star Josh Jenkins in the same forward line could be “a real weapon” for Geelong.
All three lined-up in the training session/match simulation against Collingwood, and Dangerfield liked what he saw.
“I thought it worked really well at times,” he said.
“I don’t think it’s something we’ll go to all the time, and that’s without having spoken to the coaches about. Obviously, it’s there call to make.
“But, I think it can potentially provide a real weapon for us with Josh rucking up and around the ground and Esava being able to do centre bounces – there’s not too many that can jump like him in the CBs.
“They got a good hitout yesterday against some quality ruckman.
“It’s valuable learning for them because it does take a while to adjust when a new player comes into the system; how they play and how they move.”
Geelong will have two opportunities to have Hawkins, Ratugolea and Jenkins playing together during the pre-season, with matches against Gold Coast (February 22) at Metricon Stadium and Essendon (March 9) in Colac.
Although he didn’t take part in the session with Collingwood, Dangerfield expects to be on the plane for next week’s clash with Suns.
“That’s the plan,” he said. “We’ll probably play our full list given how hot it is up there at the moment.
“We’ll expose a few younger players to that game as well and try a few different things out.”
