Sam De Koning will remain a Geelong player until at least the end of 2027 after signing a contract extension.
The 24-year-old as put pen to paper on a new two-year deal, joining Shannon Neale, Brad Close, Jeremy Cameron, Ollie Henry, and Toby Conway in recently inking new contracts.
“I’m excited to commit for at least the next two years,” De Koning, who will become eligible for free agency at the end of the new deal, said.
“Geelong has become home for me, and I absolutely love everything the club and region offers.
“Since being drafted, I’ve been lucky enough to play with some great players and enjoy team success, and the group we are building now has a bright future ahead, and I’m excited to be part of it.”
Drafted with pick 19 in the 2019 National Draft, De Koning debuted in Round 5, 2021.
He has since played 65 games, including playing a key role in Geelong’s 2022 premiership, winning the Cats’ best young player award and finishing runner-up in the Rising Star.
Having played his early football at GMHBA Stadium as a key defender, De Koning has taken on the No.1 ruck mantle in 2025, working in tandem with veteran utility Mark Blicavs.
“Sam is a quality person and player, and we are really pleased he has re-signed with us,” football boss Andrew Mackie said.
“We look forward to seeing Sam continue to develop as a footballer and flourish alongside our core group of young, emerging players.”
The re-signing of De Koning leaves 16 Cats without a deal for 2026.
These include reigning Rising Star Ollie Dempsey, small forward Shaun Mannagh, young midfielder Mitch Knevitt, and hard-nut Tom Atkins.
