MITCH Duncan is aiming to be right for Geelong’s Round 1 clash with the GWS Giants after undergoing hip surgery before Christmas.
The 28-year-old, who had his 2019 season finished a fortnight early following a knee injury in the qualifying loss to Collingwood, is close to a return to full training.
“We just have to play it week-by-week and see the hip’s pulling up and how it’s progressing,” Duncan said during a visit to Teesdale Primary School. “Everything so far is heading in that (Round 1) direction.
“I’ve been in the rehab (group) just off to the side (of main training) and indoors.
“(When I join) the main group, I’m not 100 per cent sure. Probably at least a couple of weeks away.
“It’s been good, to be honest. I feel like I’ve got a lot of work in aerobically.
“Now it’s just transferring that into footy.”
If the hip does respond well, the final Marsh Series match against Essendon on March 9 or the VFL practice match on March 13 are also options for Duncan to make his return.
“But we do get fixated on Round 1 a lot,” he said.
“We just have to be smart with our decision.”
