The return of former AFLW-listed defender Denby Taylor to football highlights the release of Geelong’s VFLW squad for the 2024 season.
Taylor walked away from the sport after the Cats’ 2021 campaign, having played 18 games after being drafted from the Geelong Falcons ahead of the club’s first AFLW season.
The 24-year-old was placed on the inactive list for the 2022 season before officially ‘retiring’ ahead of Season 7.
Taylor, who played in the first practice match against Williamstown, isn’t the only former AFLW-listed Cat to join the VFLW squad.
Former basketball star Sammy Gooden will make her return to football after injury and pregnancy meant she didn’t take the field in two seasons on the list.
Sophie Mahar, Kate Martin, and Jo Sunderland are among the 2023 Geelong Falcons graduates earning a spot on coach Elise Coventry’s list.
The Cats open their season against Carlton at GMHBA Stadium on Saturday, 23 March.
