Former Collingwood AFL player Jay Rantall is among three inclusions for Geelong’s VFL clash with the Northern Bullants at GMHBA Stadium tomorrow.
Warrnambool-based Rantall, who played five matches with the Magpies, arrived at the Cats in the off-season.
After being delisted by Collingwood at the end of 2021, he spent a year with SANFL club Norwood.
In 2023, Rantall made five VFL appearances with Footscray, followed by four matches with reigning Werribee last year.
A talented basketballer, Rantall signed with NBL1 South club Geelong United before a change of heart.
He is one of three inclusions for the Cats, with Peel Thunder premiership player Taj Wyburd, who will play with Bellarine club Ocean Grove when not required in the Hoops, also making his club debut.
South Barwon Todd White has also been named.
AFL-listed duo Mitch Duncan and Oli Wiltshire, who were keys in the Round 1 win over Sandringham, have travelled to Brisbane ahead of tomorrow night’s clash with the Lions at the Gabba.
With a lengthy injury list, Geelong’s VFL team will feature just six AFL-listed players, headlined by forward Shaun Mannagh and veteran ruck Rhys Stanley.
Captain Dan Capiron will play his 100th VFL game. After starting his state league career at Frankston, Capiron will run out for the Cats for the 82nd time tomorrow.
First bounce is at 12:35pm.
Meanwhile, returning big man Nathan Kreuger has been named in the VFL squad for next month’s state game against the SANFL as part of the AFL’s Gather Round.
Coach Mark Corrigan will speak to K rock Football in the Lions-Cats pre-game at 6:20pm (AEDT).
