Already scrambling to secure his spot in Geelong’s best 23, veteran defender Jed Bews is facing a delayed start to the season after undergoing finger surgery.
K rock Football understands the 31-year-old damaged the tendon in the little finger of his left hand in an off-field accident and could miss anywhere between 8-12 weeks.
Injury and form kept Bews out of Geelong’s AFL team for much of 2024. However, he returned late in the season to play five of the Cats’ last seven matches, including both finals, to take his career tally to 171.
FINALS IMPORTANT TO CAT’S DEVELOPMENT
He played limited minutes in Geelong’s match simulation against Hawthorn but missed out on the following week’s Community Series match-up with Essendon, lining up in the VFL practice match that preceded it.
Geelong is expected to confirm the injury in its health update later today (Tuesday)
More to come
