GEELONG coach Andrew Bruce has labelled as “frustrating” Saturday’s 11-point loss to Casey Demons at Deakin Uni.
The Cats have slid to fifth on the ladder, and two wins outside the top two, following the 5.15 (45) to 5.4 (34) defeat by the undefeated Demons.
“(We) did a lot right and got a lot wrong,” Bruce told Bay 93.9’s The Sideline View.
“Hopefully (there is) a bit of growth in us over the next few weeks.”
Geelong, who were missing VFLW regulars Chloe Leonard and Maddie Boyd, held the lead at quarter and half time, with the Demons kicking 2.3 to 1.1 in the third quarter to level the scores.
Bruce implored his players to keep playing their style of football in the final term.
However, the visitors kicked the lone goal in the last quarter while holding the Cats scoreless.
“We just needed to defend them a bit better if they got possession of the footy,” Bruce said.
“We weren’t looking to change a whole lot, and we put some things in place we thought could help us.
“But, Casey were just a bit better on the day.”
Casey dominated the possessions count, 267-210, firing out 114 handballs to Geelong’s 55.
The Demons also had more inside 50s, 39-30.
AFLW listed defender Carly Remmos was Geelong’s leading possession winner with 23, while Tamara Smith continued her impressive first month of the season with 22 disposals and 12 tackles.
Mia Skinner and Georgia Clarke both finish with two goals.
The Cats will enjoy a weekend off as the competition goes on hold before returning for another home game against Essendon on the weekend of March 26-27.
