Geelong defender Jake Kolodjashnij’s 200-game milestone will be on hold until next month as he battles an ongoing groin issue.
The 29-year-old, who finished 2024 on 198 matches, has been managing the issue in recent weeks, and is set to be sidelined until Round 4.
“Over the last two weeks his loading has progressed well, however he will be unavailable for selection for the next three weeks,” Cats football boss Andrew Mackie said.
However, Shaun Mannagh, after battling a navicular issue through the pre-season, has been cleared to play in the VFL.
Kolodjashnij is one of six players Geelong can’t consider for the clash with the Dockers or the VFL practice match against Port Melbourne on Saturday.
As revealed by K rock Football, Jed Bews is facing between 8-12 weeks on the sidelines after finger surgery, while rookie Xavier Ivisic is looking at a 4-6 week recovery after syndesmosis surgery.
“Jed has sustained a right fifth finger tendon injury, Mackie said.
“He has had surgery to repair the tendon and is currently in a splint and recovering well.
“He will be sidelined for the next 8-12 weeks. However, (he) will be able to complete conditioning and light touch training.”
“(Xavier) has recommenced running and will begin to integrate back into football drills over the next fortnight.
“He is expected to remain sidelined for the next 4-6 weeks.”
Veteran Cam Guthrie (Achilles), midfielder Tanner Bruhn (finger), and young ruck Toby Conway (back) are all listed as TBC.
“Cameron is progressing well through his rehab after having minor surgery on his left Achilles tendon two weeks ago,” Mackie said.
“After experiencing ongoing discomfort during high-level football drills, it’s hoped the surgery will help Cam return to full function and minimise risk of ongoing issues.
“He has commenced running, and a return-to-play timeline will be confirmed as his loads increase.
“(Tanner) has avoided surgery, however, will continue to wear a splint to help the healing process.
“Toby has returned to running and is progressing well through this reconditioning block.
“He will start integrating into football-based drills over the next fortnight.
“Toby is a long-term prospect, and a timeline on his return will be set as an appropriate preseason load profile is completed.”
