Zali Friswell has become the first AFLW Rising Star nominee from Geelong in two seasons.

The 19-year-old capped an impressive home-and-away season with 17 disposals, four marks and three tackles in the Cats’ 40-point win over Hawthorn at GMHBA Stadium on Sunday.

Friswell, who joined Geelong with pick seven in the 2021 AFLW Draft, joins fellow former Calder Cannon Georgie Prespakis in receiving a nomination.

Prespakis was the Cats’ most recent nominee – Round 10 in the first of the two 2022 seasons.

“Zali has been a fantastic addition to our playing group the past three seasons and is really coming into her own on the wing,” coach Daniel Lowther said.

“She brings a lot of energy to every training session and game day, and her pace, clean skills and composure under pressure are a real benefit for our team.

“We’re thrilled to see Zali now receiving recognition from the football community with this Rising Star nomination.”

Friswell, who debuted in the opening round of the first 2022 season, has played 28 games for Geelong – the last 21 consecutively.
