Geelong will be without Chloe Scheer for at least the first half of the AFLW season, with the star forward to undergo surgery on her toe.
The Cats’ all-time leading goalkicker, having kicked 42 goals from 31 games since arriving from the Adelaide Crows ahead of the 2022 season, has been battling an injury during the pre-season.
“Chloe will have surgery early next week and is expected to be sidelined for the first half of the season”” Geelong’ss assistant football boss Brett Johnson said.
“After managing the injury throughout the pre-season, the best course of action was to have surgery to ensure that Chloe can launch into the second half of the season as best as she can.
“She is pivotal for us, and we are all behind her on her road back.”
Reigning best-and-fairest Georgie Prespakis and young gun Darcy Moloney will miss tomorrow’s (Saturday’s) practice match against Essendon.
Prespakis (quad) is racing the clock to be ready for the Round 1 meeting with Melbourne, while Moloney (foot) is expected to take on the Demons.
“Georgie, unfortunately, picked up a minor quad strain at training, and we expect her to be ready to go when we host the Demons in Round 1,” Johnson said.
“She is already back running, so things are progressing positively.
“Georgie and Darcy are both integral members of our midfield mix, and we look forward to seeing them back and thriving ahead of another big season.”
