Shelley Scott is expected to return from illness for her 75th AFLW game when Geelong hosts the Brisbane Lions at GMHBA Stadium on Sunday.
The former Melbourne co-captain, who will become the 25th player to reach the milestone, missed last week’s loss to Richmond.
Scott is likely to be joined by Irish woman Kate Kenny, who was sidelined with an ankle complaint.
“It was unfortunate to lose Shelley and Kate for last week’s game, but we’re optimistic both will be back this weekend to take on Brisbane,” assistant football boss Brett Johnson said.
However, Kenny’s compatriot Rachel Kearns has entered concussion protocols following an incident against Richmond.
Star midfielder Amy McDonald is slim a chance to take on the Lions after missing three games with a hamstring injury, while there is now a timeframe of 2-3 weeks against gun forward Chloe Scheer’s name.
“Amy is progressing well, and we will continue to monitor her progress this week,” Johnson said.
“We haven’t yet ruled her out for Sunday’s game against Brisbane, but at this stage, it is more likely she will return against West Coast the following weekend.
“Chloe is tracking really well. If she’s cleared by the medical team to play in the coming weeks, then she’ll be selected.
“Given the work Chloe has put into her rehab this season, if we have the opportunity to play her, we’ll be naming her in our 21.”
