GEELONG will likely be without Rachel Kearns for the remainder of the AFLW season after the Irish excitement machine underwent surgery this (Wednesday) morning on a serious shoulder injury.
The 25-year-old was into just her first quarter of her second season with the Cats when she suffered damage to her AC joint in a strong tackle by Richmond’s Beth Lynch that escaped scrutiny by the Match Review Officer.
Kearns was assessed by an orthopaedic surgeon yesterday, with the decision made to go down the surgical route.
From County Mayo, the former star Gaelic footballer, soccer player and boxer became an instant fan favourite in her first season at Geelong.
She played all ten matches last season, winning admiration for her fearless attack on the football and her ability to chase down and tackle opponents despite Gaelic football being a non-tackling sport.
More to come
