NEARLY three years after first being overlooked by AFLW clubs, Geelong VFLW star Paige Sheppard has finally got her chance.

The Bell Post Hill junior and Geelong Falcons Falcons graduate has joined the Sydney Swans as an open-age expansion signing.

It means Sheppard, who finished runner-up in Geelong’s best-and-fairest in 2021, won’t be part of the Cats’ finals campaign when it starts next week.

“We thank Paige for her contribution to our VFLW program over the past four years,” AFLW boss Brett Johnson said.

“Paige has worked hard to earn her opportunity at AFLW level.

“Her persistence has paid off, and we wish her well as she continues her football journey at the Swans.”

Sheppard continues Geelong’s history of producing AFLW players from its VFLW program, including 2021 Cats best-and-fairest Amy McDonald and 2022 list additions Liv Fuller, Claudia Gunjaca and Annabel Johnson.
