Travelling Cats in Season 7

July 4, 2022 11:45 am in by

FOUR home games at GMHBA Stadium, three interstate trips, and matches in Ballarat and Warrnambool feature in Geelong’s fixture for AFLW Season 7.

The Cats will open their fifth campaign against one of the two teams it beat in Season 6, Richmond, at home on August 28.

It also has GMHBA Stadium matches against Collingwood and St Kilda in rounds 3 and 5, respectively.

However, with the venue being used for cricket’s T20 World Cup in mid-October, Geelong’s next match at home won’t be until the final round meeting with competition newcomer Sydney.

Its fifth “home” game is against West Coast at IKON Park in Carlton.

The Cats will head to Ballarat in Round 6 for a meeting with the Western Bulldogs at Mars Stadium.

The following week it meets expansion team Essendon and inaugural Cat Sophie van de Heuvel in the first AFLW match to be played in Warrnambool at the recently redeveloped Reid Oval

Geelong’s interstate assignments are against Fremantle, North Melbourne in Launceston, and Adelaide (rounds 2,4 and 9).

“The Season 7 fixture is going to provide our members and supporters a number of opportunities to rally behind the team,” CEO Steve Hocking said.

“In addition, our travel schedule will allow a number of our interstate members and supporters to get along to the football and see the Cats in action in their home states.”

The Cats won’t play new clubs, Port Adelaide and Hawthorn, while a first-ever in-season meeting with Melbourne will have to wait until 2023.
