PORT Melbourne premiership player Lachie Waddell will make his VFL debut for Geelong in Sunday’s clash with Williamstown at GMHBA Stadium.
Waddell, who has more than 50 VFL games under his belt, including the Borough’s 2017 grand final win, has returned to state league level after more than two years.
He spent 2021 with Hampden league club Hamilton and is aligned to GFL club Newtown & Chilwell this year, where he was one of the Eagles’ best in last week’s win over Geelong West.
The Cats have made five changes to the team that lost to Southport on April 14.
Joining Waddell in the team are AFL-listed duo Gary Rohan and Luke Dahlhaus, leadership group member Angus Byrne and Lake Wendouree product Scott Carlin.
AFL pair Cooper Whyte (groin soreness) and Paul Tsapatolis (ankle) won’t play, Ollie Dempsey is in the senior team, while Cooper Jones and Liam McCarthy are also out.
Meanwhile, dates and times for Geelong’s Round 9 and 10 matches have been set.
The Cats will travel to Preston City Oval on Sunday, May 22, for a meeting with the Northern Bullants at 1:05pm
The following week, Geelong will host the GWS Giants on Sunday, May 29, at GMHBA Stadium at 12:05pm.
