GEELONG defender Zach Guthrie says he’s still looking to cement a position in the Cats’ best 22, as he prepares to take the field for a 50th time this weekend.
Saturday’s clash against Gold Coast will be Guthrie’s 17th match for the season – the most AFL games he’s played in the one year.
But the 24-year-old admits he’s still finding it tough to fit into a Cats side that looks set to take out the minor premiership.
“I’m trying to become a regular player, that’s still a goal of mine to try and be a mainstay of the team, that will be something I’ll keep working towards,” the out-of-contract Guthrie said.
The Cats are eyeing off an impressive 12th win in a row when they take on the Suns at Metricon Stadium.
Guthrie, who’s featured in the 11 consecutive wins, said Geelong’s still got plenty to work on in the last fortnight, despite a top four position secured.
“We’re in a pretty good spot at the moment, but we’re not settling,” he said.
“We’re looking to try and nail these next few weeks before whatever comes after that.”
