Kanye West has reportedly lost a $20 million deal to perform in Japan after his controversial stunt at the Grammys, according to Daily Mail sources in Tokyo.
The 47-year-old had signed on for two shows at the Tokyo Dome in May, but his investors backed out after his wild red carpet appearance with his wife, Bianca Censori, on Sunday night.
The source said that “Kanye is just ****ing up every opportunity that comes to him. The stunt was creepy beyond belief and has been greeted with horror in Japan.”
“Japan is having a cultural awakening about women’s rights and the MeToo movement is really strong here. What he did is being seen as an act of coercive control which is utterly unacceptable. He has completely culturally misjudged Japan.”
Apparently, West has been living in a hotel in Tokyo for most of the past year, which adds an interesting twist to things.
West and Censori didn’t stick around long after their red carpet appearance and were spotted hopping into a limo shortly after.
The whole stunt was reportedly an attempt to recreate the album cover for his upcoming 2024 record, Vultures I.
But it seems to have backfired pretty badly, as fans online are raising concerns about Bianca’s well-being, and even people in the music industry aren’t impressed.
“This was totally disrespectful to the Grammys,” another source shared with the Daily Mail.
“To pull a stunt at what is essentially a fundraiser and in the context of what has been going on in LA is almost inconceivably stupid, crass and wrong.”
