The “shocking” discovery which was made on a Queensland beach has sent social media into a spin and left scientists searching for answers.
Photos of the mystery creature were uploaded to a Marine Biology Facebook group by 34-year-old Bobbi-lee Oates who discovered the remains at Keppel Sands on Queensland’s Capricornia Coast.
Bobbi asked the group “if anyone has any idea what it is or who I could possibly get to find out exactly what it is”?

The post sparked a crazy debate over whether the remains are human, animal, or even mermaid.
“The long part tail or leg looks like it’s got additional joint areas where another bone would attach, like a foot. The skull is round, the ribs are consistently human shaped. Wow,” one group member commented.
“Contact local police, man that looks human” another member added.
Other group members suggested it could be a marine animal like a seal or even possibly a dugong or dolphin, while others thought it could even be a kangaroo.
But there was a group of members who are convinced that the remains could very well be of a mermaid with a woman commenting “Doesn’t look like a marine animal. It’s got a leg. It’s also very hairy,” while another group member joked “that’s Ariel”.
The answer still escapes everyone with Oates saying “I still have not found out what it was”. “I was hoping someone would comment saying what it was, but the comments were all so different.”
